Andres Pastrana, President of the Centrist Democrat International (CDI-IDC), and members of its executive committee expressed strong praise and support for Cambodia's restraint and wisdom under Prime Minister Hun Manet in resolving disputes peacefully and upholding centrist political principles.
Andres Pastrana said Cambodia had demonstrated to the world important values of centrist leadership: focusing on people's interests, trusting peaceful solutions and maintaining good relations with neighbouring countries to ensure long-term regional peace and development.
The praise was set out in a press release on the outcomes of the CDI-IDC executive committee meeting and general assembly, held in São Paulo, Brazil, from November 20 to 23, 2025.
The meeting adopted a statement supporting the 'Cambodia–Thailand ceasefire and peace agreement', with the following main points:
- Praised the role of the international community, particularly US President Donald Trump, rotating ASEAN Chair and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and the important role of the People's Republic of China.
- Called on all parties to respect the joint declaration so that normal social, cultural and economic life could resume for people in affected areas.
- Called for the unconditional release of all 18 Cambodian soldiers.
- Urged an end to all acts contrary to human dignity and violations of international law, including international humanitarian law.
- Called on the international community to cooperate in restoring World Heritage and cultural heritage sites damaged by armed action, artillery shelling and bombing.
The statement expressed the international centrist organisation's strong support for Cambodia's wish to preserve regional peace and stability through peaceful political commitment and international engagement.
