On the evening of December 13, a religious gathering was held outside Wat Ounalom in Phnom Penh to promote compassion, strengthen national solidarity, pray for peace and encourage the morale of troops and civilians. It drew many monks and members of the public.

The event was described as a “vows-and-compassion ceremony”, jointly held by senior monks and worshippers. It aimed to strengthen awareness of national unity and bring monks and laypeople together in offering spiritual support and blessings to heroic officers and soldiers serving on the front line, as well as people forced from their homes by the conflict.

The atmosphere was solemn, with monks chanting prayers and worshippers participating devoutly. Together they prayed for peace to come soon to the Kingdom of Cambodia, for national tranquillity and for people’s safety. The report presented the gathering as demonstrating religion’s important role in building social consensus and conveying positive values.
