Thailand’s navy has reportedly recently formed a naval task force dedicated to Gulf of Thailand security and begun related military deployments. Its main tasks include patrolling and monitoring the gulf, identifying and striking military targets deemed threatening, with the stated aim of maintaining security and stability along the gulf coast.
The report said the operations focused on Cambodian military facilities and naval assets along the gulf coast, aiming to weaken Cambodia’s maritime combat capability while preventing key military supplies from entering Cambodia through sea routes.
Thai media reported that the navy emphasised that the scope of its targets was limited to military facilities and did not include civilian targets. It described the purpose as reducing the other side’s military operational capability “as much as possible” and safeguarding communities along the Gulf of Thailand coast.
