On the morning of December 19, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn received a courtesy call from Russian Ambassador to Cambodia Anatoly Borovik at the ministry.
The two sides exchanged views on strengthening and expanding Cambodia–Russia relations in all fields for mutual benefit. The deputy prime minister highly valued the countries’ longstanding traditional friendship and noted the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations, to be celebrated in 2026.
He also briefed the ambassador on the grave situation in the Cambodia–Thailand conflict and expressed thanks for condolences over the loss of life and sympathy for civilians affected by the conflict.
Both sides expressed concern about the serious effects of fake and false information and firmly rejected reports by some media alleging that Russian citizens were serving as mercenaries in Cambodia, describing the allegations as baseless.
The deputy prime minister praised Anatoly Borovik’s support for an immediate ceasefire and a return to a peaceful solution. He also thanked the Russian embassy for contributing through the Cambodian Red Cross to relief efforts for numerous displaced families.
