A group of about six youths on four motorcycles gathered to eat and drink on a canal embankment in Mi Leav village, Tuol Ampil commune, Basedth district, Kampong Speu province, waiting for an arranged sword fight. When a police patrol arrived while they were waiting for their opponents, the youths suddenly drew swords and prepared to attack the officers. Police apprehended four of them, while two others scattered and escaped. The incident occurred at 10:30 p.m. as Basedth district police patrolled the area to maintain public security and safety. Most of the youths lived in the village and commune where the incident occurred.
Kampong Speu Provincial Police said in a post on its official Facebook page on December 22, 2025, that, according to their admissions, the youths had mistaken the officers for the rival group they had arranged to meet there. Criminal investigators said these youths were on a police list of troublemakers who regularly caused incidents on public roads when pupils left school and at drinking venues at night. Criminal police were continuing to prepare a case file for referral to the relevant provincial office for legal action, while investigating the remaining accomplices.
