Myanmar’s government has recently continued a crackdown on telecommunications and online fraud and online gambling in the Myawaddy area, focusing on Shwe Kokko and KK Park. Joint enforcement teams comprising security forces and local administrative departments have conducted concentrated inspections, shut down illegal sites and demolished buildings involved in the cases.
Since December, enforcement operations have identified 635 illegal buildings at KK Park, of which 485 have been demolished. Recently, teams demolished three four-storey illegal buildings in Zone 3, further reducing the space available for scam and gambling activities.
Meanwhile, enforcement officers newly identified 12 buildings suspected of online gambling activity, four of which have been sealed off in accordance with the law. Materials from demolished buildings have been burned under unified arrangements to prevent their reuse in illegal activities. The crackdown is continuing.
