Summary

The report says secretariat-level talks produced a preliminary ceasefire consensus for December 27; Anutin said the 72-hour proposal remained subject to further talks, with any release of 18 soldiers conditional.

After three consecutive days of intensive consultations, Cambodia and Thailand reached agreement on preliminary ceasefire arrangements. According to the report, the two sides reached consensus on initial ceasefire terms at a Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) secretariat-level meeting in Thailand’s Chanthaburi province. The arrangements were to take formal effect on December 27.

Addressing questions about the duration of the ceasefire, Anutin said the 72-hour ceasefire proposal had been put forward by Thailand as one of the conditions Bangkok wanted Phnom Penh to accept. The arrangements would still depend on the outcome of subsequent talks between the two sides.

If both sides maintained a complete ceasefire for 72 hours, Thailand might release the 18 Cambodian soldiers it had previously detained, and send four JD members to accompany and escort them back to Cambodia.
