Summary

The National Bank said it would prioritise front-line soldiers’ relief applications, with specified loan cancellations for fallen or disabled soldiers and measures lasting through March 31, 2026.

Cambodia’s National Bank announced on January 1 that it would prioritise the handling and coordination of loan-repayment exemption applications submitted by front-line soldiers, supporting their duties to defend national sovereignty and territorial security. Recent fighting and its effects had increased loan-relief applications from soldiers and displaced people. The bank said its action aimed to protect priority groups’ interests and improve approval efficiency.

Under the guidelines, loans outstanding of up to KHR80 million, approximately US$20,000, may be cancelled for soldiers recognised as having fallen in service or their co-borrowers. Soldiers disabled by combat injuries may have up to KHR10 million, approximately US$2,500, cancelled. Related loans will also be exempted from fees, penalties and interest, and principal repayments may be deferred to ease financial pressure on soldiers and their families.

The National Bank said the financial-relief measures had taken effect and would continue until March 31, 2026, providing necessary support to front-line soldiers and other groups affected by the fighting and reflecting national care and protection for those serving at the front.
