From tomorrow, January 7, through January 15, 2026, temperatures are forecast to fall sharply to as low as 14 degrees Celsius (°C) in some Cambodian provinces and in the Cardamom, Dangrek and Bokor mountain ranges. The provinces are Oddar Meanchey, Pailin, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, Kampong Speu and Stung Treng.
In a notice issued on January 6, the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology said that, following its monitoring, analysis and forecasts, it had observed a strong northeast monsoon blowing over the South China Sea, the Mekong basin, Cambodian waters and the Kingdom of Cambodia, causing the sharp cooling.
Temperatures in Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Siem Reap, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Kandal, Svay Rieng, Takeo and Phnom Penh are forecast to fall to 17°C. Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot and Kep provinces are forecast to cool to 19°C, with sea waves between 0.50 and 1.00 metres high.
The ministry urged the public and local authorities to remain highly alert to the cold weather and gusts, particularly the cold at night and in the early morning, and to take care of their health to avoid problems that might arise unexpectedly. It said it would continue monitoring and analysing the weather and provide further notices if conditions changed.
