Sun Chanthol, First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, disclosed that a US company had pledged to invest between US$500 million and US$1 billion in Cambodia after reciprocal tariff negotiations with the United States were completed.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the conference reviewing 2025 commercial work and setting commercial work directions for 2026, held at the Ministry of Commerce on the afternoon of January 9, Sun Chanthol said the company had bought medical equipment and supplies from Cambodia and would purchase more. The same company also has businesses in Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. He did not give details of the company’s name, saying only that it had pledged to make efforts to establish a factory in Cambodia with investment ranging from US$500 million to US$1 billion.
The CDC First Vice President further disclosed that completion of negotiations on the reciprocal trade agreement with the United States had led the major company to decide to invest in Cambodia. Meanwhile, Cambodia continues negotiating with the United States for further reciprocal tariff reductions for certain priority sectors, including garments, footwear and travel goods. He said the United States had no need to protect its domestic industries in these sectors.
