Summary

Pailin launched its “Say no to fake news” campaign on January 12, urging people to identify, prevent the spread of and counter false information, and to share truthful, clearly sourced information ethically and professionally.

Pailin province launched an anti-disinformation campaign under the slogan “Say no to fake news” on the morning of January 12, 2026. Deputy Governor So Sovann attended, along with leaders of provincial departments, units and institutions, local authorities, young people, teachers, students and members of the public, with approximately more than 300 participants.

Nyib Bory, acting director of Pailin’s Information Department, said the “Say no to fake news” campaign followed guidance from Information Minister Neth Pheaktra. It focuses on changing the behaviour of people who use social networks and modern media in order to prevent the spread of false information in Cambodian society.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Governor So Sovann said that as technology continued to advance, the reception and dissemination of information through digital systems and social networks had steadily increased, making the dangers of false information more acute. He said all sectors—information users, producers and distributors—needed a clearer understanding of its consequences in order to ensure information security: public access to quality, safe information.

The deputy governor added that digital citizens needed to learn more about identifying false information, preventing its spread and countering it. Community residents, journalists, influential content creators, young people, civil servants, businesspeople and especially social-network users should therefore participate in the campaign, practising the creation, sharing and dissemination of truthful information with clear sources, in an ethical and professional manner.
