Summary

Stung Treng Governor Sar Soputra ordered technically compliant repairs to a recently built road without additional state funding; about 600 metres require repair.

Stung Treng Governor Sar Soputra ordered the road construction contractor to carry out immediate repairs in proper accordance with technical standards, without allowing any additional state budget funds to be used.

An on-site inspection had found cracks, breakage and crumbling in some parts of the road, even though it had only recently opened and had not been in use for many months.

The asphalt road is at the teak plantation in Reacheanukol village, Stung Treng sangkat, Stung Treng city. Having only recently been completed and used for a short time, it has already shown damage, causing concern among residents and people travelling through the area.

The governor said he would continue inspecting the quality of the repair work and would take legal action if negligence or failure to honour the contract was found, to protect public safety and interests.

Meanwhile, Sa Kimnat, director of the provincial Department of Public Works and Transport, said the company contracted to build the road had not come to repair it, but had passed the repair task to the public works department to undertake in its place.

The department director added that the section requiring repair was about 600 metres long and that the department would repair it properly in accordance with technical specifications so it could remain in use for a long time. By: Pai Sokhim
