Prime Minister Hun Manet recently signed a decision formally establishing an inter-ministerial working group to study the management, use and future development of Phnom Penh International Airport, the former airport, and provide policy recommendations and research findings to the government.

Under the decision, the group will serve as a government advisory body and systematically study the former airport’s functions, management models and forms of public use. The aim is to improve resource-use efficiency, realise the airport’s potential and better serve national development strategies and the public interest.

The group will be chaired by a senior official of the Office of the Council of Ministers, with senior officials from the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Economy and Finance as deputy chairs and representatives of relevant ministries participating. Its main tasks include drawing up an overall plan for the former airport, exploring sustainable management and operating models, studying funding sources and feasible mechanisms for private-sector participation, and establishing supporting institutional arrangements to ensure that the plans and policies move forward smoothly.
