A direct route from Chengdu to Sihanoukville is set to launch. Cambodia Airways announced that regular service between Sihanoukville and Chengdu Tianfu Airport would begin on January 21, operating Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Sihanoukville would become Chengdu’s second direct Cambodian destination after Phnom Penh, with a one-way flight of around 3.5 hours.
Under the schedule, KR962 departs Chengdu Tianfu at 2:30 p.m. and arrives in Sihanoukville at 5:20 p.m. local time. KR961 departs Sihanoukville at 9 a.m. local time and returns to Chengdu at 1:30 p.m. The route is expected to greatly improve travel efficiency between southwestern China and Cambodia.
Air links between China and Cambodia have recently increased. Spring Airlines resumed direct Chengdu–Phnom Penh flights last December. Cambodia’s government also announced a trial single-entry, 14-day visa exemption for Chinese tourists from June 15 to October 15 this year. Industry observers expected expanded flights and visa facilitation to substantially boost exchanges and tourism cooperation.
