A Hong Kong-backed company is investing in green industry in Cambodia. On January 19, construction began in Krakor district, Pursat, on a waste-PET plastic reprocessing factory backed by Hong Kong’s A1 company with investment of about US$29 million, marking continued foreign investment in environmental protection and the circular economy.

Mines and Energy Minister Keo Rottanak said the government was promoting economic development alongside environmental protection under Prime Minister Hun Manet’s policies. The project would improve waste-plastic recycling and environmental conditions, create more green jobs and broaden sources of public revenue.

Deputy Prime Minister and Council for the Development of Cambodia First Vice-Chairman Sun Chanthol said the number and scale of investment projects had grown in recent years, reflecting improvements in the business environment and investment appeal. In 2025, Cambodia approved 630 projects, up 52 percent, with approximately US$10 billion in approved investment, up 45 percent, potentially creating around 438,000 jobs to support growth and employment.
