U.S. President Donald Trump sent letters to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet formally inviting Cambodia to join as a founding member state of the Board of Peace. Two Washington letters bearing Trump’s signature appeared on the Cambodian prime minister’s official Telegram channel on the night of January 21,2026, inviting Cambodia to become a founding member state and a party to the board’s charter.
A letter dated January 16 said the board would be unprecedented and that each member state could appoint an authorised representative to attend and participate in meetings. Trump’s initiative to establish the Board of Peace had attracted attention in diplomatic circles around the world. The same invitation was sent to around 60-plus countries, including Thailand and Vietnam.
