As checks intensified across Cambodia, police intercepted seven Chinese men on the road for lacking lawful documents. On January 21 they left Koh Kong province on a pedal tricycle bound for Phnom Penh along National Road 4 and drew police attention while passing a checkpoint.
At 3:50 p.m. that day, officers stopped the tricycle at kilometre 87 of National Road 4 in Kampong Speu province. When asked to show valid lawful documents, none of the seven could do so, and they were arrested at the scene. Checks established that all seven were Chinese nationals aged between 17 and 30.
Police also confirmed that the tricycle driver was a construction worker residing in Koh Kong. The seven Chinese men had previously walked to National Road 48 in Koh Kong and asked for a ride to Phnom Penh on his tricycle. Those concerned have now been transferred to the immigration department, and the case remains under further processing.
