Chea Vuthy, secretary-general of the Cambodian Investment Board under the Council for the Development of Cambodia, recently met in Phnom Penh with a trade delegation led by Liang Songshou, chairman of China's Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area Economic and Industrial Research Federation. They discussed deeper investment cooperation and bringing projects into operation sooner.
Chea Vuthy welcomed the visitors and said this was their second formal engagement after a federation delegation met Deputy Prime Minister and CDC First Vice-Chairman Sun Chanthol in late 2024. It showed sustained Greater Bay Area business interest in Cambodia's investment environment. He said Chinese investment had expanded markedly over the preceding decade across key industries, supporting Cambodia's economic and social development.
Liang Songshou said participating firms had clear investment plans, and some had completed preliminary visits and settled on projects for factories producing tissue paper, office supplies and renewable-energy-related products. Chea Vuthy supported the plans and urged environmental protection and sustainability. He suggested exploring a specialised economic zone centred on paper and office supplies, with renewable energy, local raw-material supplies and supporting industrial chains. He also encouraged agricultural processing and prompt submission of investment-registration applications to accelerate implementation.
