Summary

Police arrested two local suspects in an Ipoh operation and reported methamphetamine, suspected chemicals and cement-block material containing MDMA; investigations continued.

Malaysian police reported a major cross-border drug case. On January 16, officers working with Perak police raided a detached bungalow in Ipoh and dismantled a trafficking base. The case was announced on January 23 and described as one of the larger drug cases in recent years.

Police seized 843.33 kg of methamphetamine, 679.22 kg of suspected drug-processing chemicals and various processing tools, and found 618.24 kg of material processed into cement blocks. Police said analysis detected MDMA in that material. The report described the method of concealing drugs in cement for transport as building materials as the first discovered locally, and put the seized drugs’ total value above US$9.1 million.

Two local suspects, a man and a woman in their thirties, were arrested. Both tested positive for methamphetamine and had previous criminal records; they were remanded for 13 days. Investigators said the group had operated since December 2024, rented high-end housing as transit warehouses and was led by foreigners, bringing in foreign chemists on rotation to produce drugs while local personnel handled transport and distribution at home and abroad. Police were also seeking a Hong Kong man with four previous drug-possession offences who had entered Malaysia five times, most recently last August. Those involved could face a maximum death sentence if convicted.
