In a notice issued on January 23, Cambodia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy announced that it would temporarily stop accepting applications to establish new fuel and gas stations, including fuel-gas facilities, from March 1 to July 31, 2026. The measure was intended to review and revise existing technical and safety requirements and improve sector-management policies.
The notice said the pause would allow reassessment of construction-related technical and safety standards and clarification of future approval principles and management directions. It applied only to new projects and would not affect operating fuel and gas stations; routine supervision and administrative procedures would continue normally.

During the pause, the ministry would continue processing applications for technical-safety compliance certificates, extensions and renewals; transfers of station operating rights or related rights; and alterations, adjustments and technical changes at existing stations. The ministry said the temporary pause on new applications would help improve overall safety and promote more standardised, orderly and sustainable construction and operation.
