Summary

Police reported rescuing a Chinese kidnapping victim after five days of tracking and arresting eight suspects following a US$50,000 ransom demand and resale to a scam compound.

Cambodian police reported that a Chinese man was abducted at Phnom Penh International Airport on January 16. A criminal group forcibly took him to a villa in Chbar Ampov district, confined him there and demanded US$50,000 from his family.

When the ransom did not arrive on time, the group sold the victim to an illegal online-scam compound in Mondulkiri province, police said.

Police began investigating immediately and, after five consecutive days of tracking and operations, identified and arrested suspects. Eight people were arrested, five Nepalis and three Chinese, and the victim was rescued safely. The case was still being handled, and the suspects were to be referred to court under the law.
