Pursat provincial police transferred 78 foreigners to the General Department of Immigration on January 27, 2026, for further procedures to return them to their countries of origin after they had entered Cambodia illegally, police said. Those detained and sent for legal procedures comprised 62 Chinese, nine Myanmar nationals and seven Thais.
Provincial police said combined forces had detained them successively during local patrols aimed at preventing, suppressing and checking suspected transport of foreigners who had entered illegally, human trafficking involving movement from one location to another, and foreigners committing online scams. Police said crime in the province had declined notably in the recent period, drawing praise from residents.
Police urged residents and people passing through Pursat to cooperate with authorities, reporting observed crimes or suspected illegal entrants through the daily duty contacts publicised by provincial police.
