Pursat provincial police denied an online claim that officers pursued Chinese nationals and demanded US$100,000, saying the information was false. Police said the video had first appeared on a Facebook account and was then reposted, causing misunderstanding and disrupting public opinion.
Police called the alleged vehicle stop and demand for money fabricated. The video claimed officers stopped two vehicles carrying 10 people and demanded a large sum, but police said checks found no such conduct. They said recent operations followed unified government, Interior Ministry and National Police arrangements, focusing on illegal entry, unlawful residence and scam-related illegal activity.
From January 15 to 27, provincial police carried out six patrol operations and found 78 foreigners who had entered or stayed illegally: 62 Chinese, nine Myanmar nationals and seven Thais. All were handed to immigration authorities under legal procedures. Police said enforcement had affected some offenders and their interests, leading to deliberate fabrications and smears. They urged the public to assess online information rationally, not believe or spread rumours, and said they would continue maintaining public order under the law.
