Summary

Defence spokesperson Lieutenant General Maly Socheata rejected the Phlan Hin Pet Kon report on February 5, saying Cambodian and Thai regional liaison teams had checked and found no such incident.

Cambodian Ministry of National Defence spokesperson Lieutenant General Maly Socheata on February 5, 2026, completely rejected a Thai media report stating: “Urgent! The Second Army Region has found that the other side fired 40 mm grenades which landed near Phlan Hin Pet Kon military base.” The spokesperson said the report was fabricated, false and entirely contrary to the facts, intended to mislead public opinion and create tensions along the Cambodia–Thailand border.

According to information from Military Region 4 of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, liaison teams from Cambodia's Military Region 4 and Thailand's Second Army Region had contacted one another, asked questions and exchanged information to establish the facts. They confirmed that no situation matching the Thai media report had occurred.

The Cambodian Defence Ministry reaffirmed its firm, clear commitment to fully, strictly and responsibly respecting and implementing the December 27, 2025 Joint Statement of the third special meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee, the October 26, 2025 Joint Declaration on the Cambodia–Thailand peace agreement, and other relevant agreements. It emphasised opposing false information to facilitate rapid improvement and a return to normality, lasting peace, stability and security along the border. By: Chinda Titi
