At 10:30 p.m. on February 9, a massage shop in Phnom Penh’s Daun Penh district was accused of colluding to defraud a customer. A foreign man receiving a massage allegedly had US$1,000 secretly switched for joss money by a masseuse and accomplices, drawing public attention.

According to the victim’s police complaint, after the service he paid the agreed amount and checked his remaining cash, only to find that all the notes were joss money and the genuine banknotes were gone. He suspected the masseuse had taken advantage of his inattention during the massage to work with accomplices, secretly switch the notes and steal the cash.

After the incident, the people involved reportedly closed the shop and fled. Local police responded promptly and took the foreign customer to the police station in the ward called Victory in the Chinese report to register his complaint. A case has been opened, and police are tracing the masseuse and accomplices and will pursue legal responsibility according to law.
