Siem Reap: The APSARA National Authority is continuing its strategy of developing temple visitor circuits and creating additional tourism products to improve visitor experiences and encourage domestic and international tourists to stay longer in the Angkor area.
Seng Sotheara, director of the authority's Department of Tourism and Cultural Development, said it was studying and preparing more visitor circuits around Angkor by installing tourism facilities and information panels providing clear details on each temple's history, architecture and main attractions.
The arrangements aim to meet the needs of visitors without guides by supplying accurate, easy-to-understand basic information. Although they cannot fully replace the experience of visiting with a tour guide, they offer an important option for visitors who wish to explore independently.
The APSARA National Authority has already officially opened circuits at several major temples, including Phnom Krom, Neak Pean, Bayon, Ta Prohm and Angkor Wat. It is now preparing to announce additional circuits at Preah Khan and Ta Keo after the installation of further facilities is completed.
The authority is also studying extensions to less-visited temples and sites, such as Banteay Thom, Kbal Spean, Chau Srei Vibol, the Roluos temple group and Beng Mealea, to increase options and distribute visitor flows more appropriately.
Seng Sotheara said these circuit developments improved the appeal of tourism products and added value for tourists visiting Angkor for a second or third time. They would not only encourage longer stays but also help improve understanding of national history and cultural heritage.
