Summary

Duk Det said his orders rose, while other market traders reported slightly fewer customers and residents adjusted celebrations to household finances.

Siem Reap roast-pig seller Duk Det said on February 16, 2026 that he had initially expected Cambodia–Thailand border problems to reduce orders for roast pig and duck. Instead, support and orders exceeded the previous year. He had been in the business for about three years and said customer support had continued to grow.

Traders and Cambodians of Chinese descent selling ritual items and goods such as cakes, fruit and flowers expressed pleasure with business during the Chinese and Vietnamese New Year, describing prices as normal.

Traders at Phsar Leu market in Siem Reap similarly described many Cambodians of Chinese and Vietnamese descent buying ritual goods over the preceding three days. They said prices had not risen, but customer numbers were slightly lower than in 2025, which they linked to the border conflict. Flowers, ritual cakes and fruit sold well as families sought to preserve Chinese and Vietnamese New Year traditions.

Ho Im, a Siem Reap resident of Chinese descent, said her family celebrated according to its customs and means. Household finances were weaker this year, so celebrations were smaller but still necessary. Residents described goods and ritual supplies as generally normally priced, with only small increases.

They also urged care when lighting candles and incense during the festival to avoid accidental fires.
