Cambodian and Lao military leaders reaffirmed their determination to strengthen cooperation and contacts between their armed forces in support of peace and stability in both countries and the region.
The statements came at February 16 bilateral talks between General Vong Pisen, commander-in-chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, and Lieutenant General Saichay Kommasith, Lao deputy defence minister and chief of the Lao People’s Army General Staff, who was leading a delegation visiting Cambodia.
Both sides noted progress through exchanges at all levels, border security and public-order cooperation committee meetings, information exchange against terrorism and cross-border crime, and scholarships. They discussed effective implementation of bilateral protocols, using existing mechanisms to address problems, information sharing to prevent and suppress cross-border crime, and disaster-relief cooperation.
The report said the shared border extended more than 550 km and that the two countries had agreed on approximately 86% of the boundary. Their demarcation teams were continuing to resolve and mark the remaining sections.
It also noted that 2026 marked 70 years of formal diplomatic relations, which had developed into a comprehensive and long-term strategic partnership.
