Summary

Nokor Sankranta is planned for April 14–19 at several Phnom Penh venues. The arrangements remain proposals, distinct from the traditional Khmer New Year dates of April 14–16.

Cambodia plans to hold Nokor Sankranta in Phnom Penh from April 14 to 19, 2026. Public Service Minister and Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia president Hun Many outlined the plan at a meeting with Information Ministry leaders and several private media organisations on the morning of March 2.

Sok Sabayna, head of the executive working group and a permanent member of the youth federation’s central committee, said the event remained at the planning stage. Proposed sites included the Wat Phnom historic area, Chaktomuk pedestrian street, gardens from Vattanac Capital Lifestyle to the night market, Wat Botum, Bassac Lane and Tuol Tom Poung Market.

Some locations would feature cooling or leisure areas, concerts and commercial zones. The cultural village programme was to include folk games; classical, traditional and folk dances; traditional Khmer mixed martial arts; Cambodian chess; Muni Hatei Garden; the Nokor Sankranta exhibition; a Buddha-image procession; ceremonial bathing of Buddha images; a festival parade; friendly tug-of-war; and giant chess. Traditional Khmer New Year, the Year of the Horse, eighth year of the cycle, Buddhist Era 2569, was to be celebrated from April 14 to 16, 2026.
