Summary

One hundred buses were allocated to city services and the Techo airport express, with 500 on six main interprovincial directions and free drinking water onboard.

Phnom Penh’s administration arranged 600 buses to carry residents free of charge for six days during Khmer New Year 2026, easing the cost of travelling home to reunite with families.

Following Prime Minister Hun Manet’s instructions at the March 6, 2026 closing of the National Authority for Combating Drugs’ 2025 review and 2026 planning conference and launch of the 11th campaign against illegal drugs, the administration arranged 600 buses for six days of free public transport, April 12–17, 2026. The service would help people visit their hometowns and families for the traditional Khmer New Year, the Year of the Horse, the eighth year of the cycle, Buddhist Era 2570.

The administration’s March 6 notice allocated 100 buses to services within Phnom Penh and the Techo International Airport Express Bus. Another 500 would take passengers between the capital and provinces along six main directions. Free drinking water would also be provided on the buses serving the departure directions.

The administration urged all passenger-transport companies, business operators and vehicle owners to cooperate by keeping fares unchanged during the coming Khmer New Year, the Year of the Horse, the eighth year of the cycle, Buddhist Era 2570, to help the government and capital administration ease residents’ living and travel costs.
