Summary

The March 22 raid reportedly detained 43 Chinese nationals and seized computers, phones and Malaysian SIM cards.

On the afternoon of March 22, Phnom Penh police raided Mandu Hotel in Sen Sok district and detained 49 people in a suspected telecommunications and online-fraud operation. According to the investigation, the group had recently moved from Tboung Khmum to Phnom Penh in an attempt to continue alleged illegal activities.

Police said the detainees included 43 Chinese nationals, three Malaysians and one each from Vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia. Preliminary findings indicated an alleged false-investment scheme that used online platforms to lure victims with promises of high returns. The reported targets were mainly citizens of Malaysia and other countries.

Officers reported seizing 60 computers,31 CPU system units, one laptop,687 phones and 46 Malaysian SIM cards, suggesting an organised operation of some scale. All suspects and evidence were transferred to Phnom Penh police. Authorities said the case remained under investigation, with officers continuing to trace the organisation and funding behind the alleged cross-border scam network.
