ថោ ជេដ្ឋា, minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, warned that excessive sand extraction from streams, rivers and coastal areas could have serious impacts, including bank erosion, changes to water currents and hydrological regimes, and damage to ecosystems, potentially affecting the national economy, society and environment.

Good management would help maintain water quality, protect the natural functions of streams, rivers and marine areas, and preserve ecosystems and biodiversity habitats.
