Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, told Vaisala, a company working in weather, energy and the environment, of Cambodia’s commitment to modernising its meteorological and hydrological services to strengthen weather forecasting, disaster risk reduction, water-resource management and climate resilience.
He made the remarks while leading a high-level ministry delegation to Vaisala’s headquarters in Helsinki, Finland, on the morning of July 28, 2026.
The minister held a working discussion with Panu Partanen, Vaisala’s Vice President responsible for weather, energy and the environment, to learn about the company’s radar-system manufacturing technology and experience. He also toured its hydrometeorological equipment and radar assembly facilities.
The minister said the visit offered an excellent opportunity to understand Vaisala’s technologies, manufacturing standards, quality assurance and long-term operational support, particularly to learn from international experience and explore how its technology could strengthen Cambodia’s national meteorological services.
He encouraged the company to participate in future development initiatives through transparent and competitive procurement processes incorporating knowledge sharing, technology transfer, capacity building and long-term technical support, which are important for strengthening Cambodia’s institutional capacity and ensuring sustainable investment.
Vaisala was established in 1936 and has more than 1,900 employees and over 30 offices worldwide. In Cambodia, the company has successfully installed an X-band Doppler radar at Techo International Airport to support aviation services.
