On the afternoon of August 24, Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen met visiting Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko. Rudenko conveyed an invitation from President Vladimir Putin, saying that Putin was ready to welcome Hun Sen on an official visit to Russia. Hun Sen replied that possible dates were being reviewed and coordinated.

Rudenko said Hun Sen was a Cambodian leader familiar to the Russian people who had long promoted friendly relations between the two countries and made important contributions to their cooperation.
Hun Sen noted that 2026 marked the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Russia, which had maintained a longstanding friendship. Recalling his time as foreign minister and prime minister, he said he had visited Russia many times and maintained exchanges with Russian leaders, helping to advance bilateral ties.

Hun Sen thanked Russia for its longstanding support for Cambodia’s development, particularly in training personnel, and said Cambodia wished to strengthen cooperation across sectors. He also welcomed a visit to Cambodia by the leader of Russia’s United Russia Party.
They also discussed economic and trade cooperation. Hun Sen described these ties as an important pillar of bilateral relations, while Rudenko outlined relevant Russian policies and plans to expand trade. Both sides looked forward to further broadening cooperation.
