King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk left for Beijing on September 1. Senate President Hun Sen serves as acting head of state during the King’s absence.

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk departed Cambodia on September 1 for routine medical checkups and consultations in Beijing, China.

According to a previously issued royal announcement, Senate President Hun Sen will serve as acting head of state and carry out the relevant duties during the King’s visit to China.

The King and Queen Mother generally travel to China twice a year for medical checkups and consultations, with their care handled by Chinese medical teams. Both had previously travelled to Beijing for checkups in February this year.

In April, King Sihamoni disclosed information about his health and received treatment, before returning to Cambodia in July. He had also thanked China for the medical care and health support that Chinese specialists have long provided to members of the royal family.

The Cambodian royal family has maintained close and friendly relations with China. The King has expressed confidence that the two countries will continue to deepen their traditional friendship and cooperation across various fields. Since diplomatic relations were established in 1958, cooperation in politics, trade, investment, culture and education has continued to grow, further strengthening bilateral ties.
