Cambodia's "Electric Era" Is Here! Registrations Surpass 22,000 Units

Cambodia's electric vehicle market continues to heat up. As of August 2026, the number of registered electric vehicles nationwide had reached 22,793. With growing public attention to and acceptance of electric vehicles, green mobility is gradually entering more Cambodian households.
By vehicle type, electric cars account for the largest share of registrations, totaling 16,926 units, followed by 4,974 electric motorcycles and 893 electric tricycles. Peng Lun noted that the relatively low daily operating costs, more comfortable riding experience, and reduced exhaust emissions are driving consumers to gradually switch to electric vehicles.

In recent years, the Cambodian government has continued to create conditions for the development of electric vehicles. In 2024, the government introduced the National Policy on Electric Vehicle Development 2024–2030, promoting the adoption of electric vehicles through industry development and infrastructure construction. At the same time, the construction of charging facilities is being gradually advanced to provide supporting services for the growth of the electric vehicle fleet.
With policy support, improvements to the charging network, and rising consumer acceptance, Cambodia's electric vehicle stock is expected to continue to grow. For Cambodia, which is pursuing an energy transition, electric vehicles represent not only a change in the way people travel, but also a key driver of the development of green transportation.
