78 Journalists Visit Cambodia’s Former 8 Park Online Scam Compound

On September 21, 78 journalists from 39 domestic and international media outlets visited the former site of "8 Park," a compound once linked to online scams in Krabau Commune, Kamchay Mear District, Prey Veng Province, Cambodia, to learn about the latest progress in the local crackdown on telecom and online fraud.

The event was organized by the Secretariat of the Cambodian Anti-Cyber Scam Committee and led by Cambodia's Ministry of Information. According to officials, the compound was built in 2023 and housed about 7,000 foreigners in 2024, with the figure once rising to nearly 20,000 in 2025, mainly nationals from China, Pakistan, India, and Nepal. As Cambodian authorities launched investigations and law enforcement operations, occupants gradually vacated the compound.

The relevant cases remain under active investigation. Police have taken judicial measures against those involved and are cooperating with international law enforcement agencies to pursue fugitives at large.

The media visit also served as a prelude to the "International Conference on Combating Telecom and Online Fraud," scheduled to be held in Phnom Penh on September 23-24. Themed "Joining Hands to Cut the Chain and End Telecom and Online Fraud," the conference is expected to be attended by representatives from more than 20 countries and international organizations.

The Cambodian government stated that crackdowns on online scam crimes will continue to advance, and law enforcement cooperation with China, the United States, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and ASEAN will be further strengthened.
In response to the trend of fraud activities becoming smaller in scale and more dispersed, Cambodia indicated that it will continue to track new criminal networks and operating patterns, and promote the regular normalization of international cooperation.
