How Does Fraud Lure Victims Step by Step? Phnom Penh Police Reveal on Site

Recently, a media journalist delegation visited the Phnom Penh Municipal Police Station for an on-site interview to learn firsthand about the Cambodian police's previous enforcement operations against online fraud, and to view the large batch of case-related items seized during those operations.

During the interview, specialized technical police officers from Phnom Penh briefed the journalist delegation on the relevant cases and displayed some of the tools and equipment used by fraud groups to carry out their crimes. The police also drew on actual cases to explain how fraudsters contact targets online, set up lures, then gradually induce victims into a trap, ultimately committing fraud or extortion.

The police said that by showcasing the seized case-related items and the specific criminal process, they hope to help the public gain a deeper understanding of the common tricks used in online fraud and raise awareness of prevention.

This on-site interview also gave the media journalists a more intuitive understanding of the work carried out by the Cambodian police in seizing case-related tools, tracing fraud chains, and combating cybercrime.
