3 Mysterious Packages Drifting in from the Sea! Sihanoukville Fisherman Hauls Up 60 Kilograms of Narcotics
On September 24, a fisherman in Sihanoukville Province, Cambodia, spotted three suspicious bags floating on the sea near Koh Po Island while fishing. After hauling them up, he discovered that the bags contained a large amount of suspected narcotics and promptly turned them over to law enforcement. After counting, there were a total of 60 packages, weighing approximately 60 kilograms in total.
According to a notice from the Sihanoukville Provincial Gendarmerie, at around 10:30 a.m. that day, the anti-drug department received the shipment of narcotics. The fisherman involved is 46 years old, a Cambodian national residing in Bokor City, Kampot Province, who makes a living from fishing. At 3 p.m., coordinated by the deputy prosecutor of the Sihanoukville Primary Court, the gendarmerie transferred the 60 packages of narcotics to the police anti-drug department for further investigation.
Police stated that the shipment of narcotics is likely connected to a joint anti-drug operation conducted in the early morning of September 23 in waters near Koh Po Island. At that time, individuals involved in the case threw part of the narcotics into the sea during the police operation, and the 60 kilograms recovered by the fisherman are suspected to be part of that shipment.
It is reported that during the joint law enforcement operation on September 23, police cracked a case involving suspected narcotics and illegal weapons trafficking, arresting a total of 7 suspects of Chinese nationality and seizing approximately 840 kilograms of narcotics, 49 long and short firearms, and nearly 8,000 rounds of ammunition.
From the 60 kilograms of narcotics salvaged from the sea to the 840 kilograms seized the previous day, this case indicates that anti-drug enforcement in Sihanoukville has been continuously intensifying. Police are currently conducting further investigations to track down the individuals involved and trace the source and flow of the narcotics.
