Sihanoukville police issue notice: public roads cannot be occupied

Sihanoukville police recently issued a notice announcing stricter enforcement of public road and sidewalk order, requiring shop owners, street vendors and residents to immediately stop occupying roadways, parking illegally and placing items on sidewalks.

The Sihanoukville Police Bureau's Order Police Office said that law enforcement officers recently found that some shop owners, vendors and residents were occupying public roads and sidewalks, including illegal vehicle parking and the placement of signs, trash bins and other personal items.

Police noted that some roads and areas around markets also saw vehicles parked in the wrong direction, squeezing road space. This not only affects the normal flow of vehicles and pedestrians, but also impacts public facilities and the urban environment.

Police require the relevant shop owners, vendors and residents to correct these issues on their own, to refrain from using public roads and sidewalks as business venues or private spaces, to regulate vehicle parking, and to help keep roads clear and public spaces clean.

Police said maintaining urban traffic order and the public environment requires the cooperation of all sectors of society. Strengthening road order management will help improve Sihanoukville's urban environment and overall image, and create a safer and more orderly travel environment for local residents and domestic and international tourists.
