Siem Reap floods rise! 4 roads restrict heavy vehicles as traffic is disrupted

On September 25, four national and provincial road sections in Cambodia's Siem Reap province were temporarily closed to heavy vehicles due to flooding triggered by continuous rainfall. The local Department of Public Works and Transport said some road infrastructure had been submerged, and the restrictions would remain in place until further notice.

The affected sections include the Svay Leu district section of National Road No. 64, the Beng Mealea-to-Kvav section of Provincial Road No. 62-3, the Svay Dongkorn commune section in Siem Reap city of Provincial Road No. 267, and the Svay Leu-to-Varin section of Provincial Road No. 2645. Authorities urged drivers to plan routes in advance and comply with on-site traffic control measures.

Besides Siem Reap, flooding has also hit parts of Battambang province. Due to consecutive rainfall causing the Sangker River flowing through Battambang city to swell, local authorities temporarily closed the Suok Kbal Bridge across the river on the afternoon of the 25th, and called on residents along the riverbanks to stay alert.

Meteorological authorities had previously warned that northwestern areas including Siem Reap and Battambang would continue to experience rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds in the near term, with heavy downpours in some regions. Members of the public are advised to watch out for road waterlogging and safety risks brought by flooding when traveling.

The road restrictions and bridge closures in multiple areas are mainly aimed at reducing traffic accidents and damage to roads and bridges during the flood period. With the rainy season continuing, local residents still need to closely monitor water level changes and the latest traffic information issued by authorities.
