Banteay Meanchey Governor personally directs forces to set up safety elevation sites for flood-evacuated residents

His Excellency Um Reatrey, Governor of Banteay Meanchey Province and Chairman of the Provincial Unified Administrative Command, on the evening of September 27, 2026, led a working group including Mr. Hoel Raya, Deputy Provincial Governor, and Mr. Kaev Tararasmey, District Governor of Mongkol Borei, together with joint forces, to set up a safety elevation site for residents living in lowland areas facing flooding from heavy rains.
The safety elevation site is located at a point along the city ring road, bordering Serei Saophoan city. The arrangement was made after water levels continued to rise, causing about 20 families in Prek Kiek village, Battambang Trang commune, Mongkol Borei district, to be temporarily evacuated to the safety elevation site in order to ensure safety and reduce risks to lives and property.

On that occasion, His Excellency Um Reatrey issued strict orders to the authorities of the affected district and commune to continue monitoring water levels closely. At the same time, they must continue to disseminate information and advise residents to prepare and store necessary supplies in safe places, and if water levels continue to rise, intervention forces must be dispatched in time to rescue residents.

In addition, the Provincial Governor emphasized that although the number of residents evacuated to the safety elevation site is not yet large, at every safety elevation site forces or community police must be assigned on duty to ensure security and order, as well as a medical team on permanent duty, to ensure that residents receive protection and necessary assistance at all times.✦ By: Pai Sakhim
