On the morning of October 13, 2026, the "Artificial Intelligence for Climate Action Forum 2026" was officially opened in Phnom Penh, under the presidency of His Excellency Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment. The ceremony was attended by senior leaders of the Royal Government, members of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Technology Executive Committee (UNFCCC TEC), the UN Resident Coordinator for Cambodia, the representative of KOICA in Cambodia, as well as technology and climate science experts and national and international delegates, numbering around 200.

His Excellency Dr. Eang Sophalleth stated that "Cambodia has declared a firm position in joining efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and curb climate change, through technology modernization and a commitment with the international community to keep emissions as low as possible." At the same time, His Excellency Eang Sophalleth stressed some key points that countries around the world must work together to keep the rise in global temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Through this forum, His Excellency the Minister called on the international community to increase the transfer of AI technology and financial support to developing countries, to ensure that the use of this technology is equitable and jointly helps save the planet from the threats of climate change impacts. His Excellency added that the use of new technology, especially AI, will help Cambodia's environmental cooperation, which has been and is suffering from climate change, to be kept to the lowest possible level, in order to move toward a green economy and carbon neutrality.
Ms. Vladanka Andreeva, the UN Resident Coordinator for Cambodia, emphasized the importance of AI technology in actively contributing alongside other developing countries to building resilient economic and social systems and responding in a timely manner to climate change. Separately, Mr. Fred Ontonri, a member of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Technology Executive Committee (UNFCCC TEC), also raised that the "Artificial Intelligence for Climate Action Forum 2026," held in Cambodia at this time, reflects that Cambodia is not only a country affected by climate change, but has played an active role in bringing modern technological solutions to address the global climate change crisis to help the planet.

It should be noted that the "Artificial Intelligence for Climate Action Forum 2026" is organized over a period of two days, from October 13-14, 2026, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, with the aim of demonstrating the firm joint position of Cambodia, as well as developing countries and island nations, together with the international community, in curbing climate change and committing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions to the lowest possible level, as well as serving as a bridge to transfer AI technology to developing countries in order to build climate resilience.
