Eleven people went missing after two commercial ships were attacked off the coast of Bulgaria on Tuesday, as the Russia-Ukraine war increasingly spills into the Black Sea.
Bulgarian President Rumen Radev summoned the Russian ambassador after a drone struck a Ukrainian-owned cargo ship named Chelsea 3, while a second cargo vessel, the HS Dignity, sailing under the flag of Guinea-Bissau, was also attacked and sank off the coast of this NATO and European Union member state.
Radev confirmed that all 15 crew members aboard the damaged Chelsea 3, including seven Ukrainians and eight Azerbaijanis, were rescued, while 11 other people aboard the HS Dignity remain missing.
It should also be noted that the Russia-Ukraine war, now stretching beyond five years, has spread across the Black Sea region, with at least 45 commercial vessels attacked over the past 12 months in an area previously not considered high-risk. By: Rithy
