The new Kilometer 9 pumping station is about 90% complete. Pipe connections are planned before Pchum Ben and full completion in November 2026, alongside canal rehabilitation to improve flood drainage.

The Phnom Penh Capital Administration is accelerating construction of the new Kilometer 9 pumping station in Svay Pak sangkat, Russey Keo district, to increase flood-drainage capacity and reduce flooding of homes and infrastructure in the capital.

The project was initiated by Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng. Construction is about 90% complete, with plans to connect the pipes to the station before Pchum Ben so that water can be pumped into the river. All construction is scheduled for completion in November 2026.

The station is equipped with four pump motors. Its combined pumping capacity is reported as 30,000 cubic metres per hour, with the report also giving a figure of 8.34 cubic metres per second. The system will pump water from the បាក់ទូក and អូវែង canals before discharging it into the river. It will support drainage in Russey Keo district as well as Daun Penh and Tuol Kork districts.

At the same time, the Phnom Penh Capital Administration has carried out rehabilitation of the បាក់ទូក and អូវែង canals, covering a combined length of 7,000 metres, to improve water flow and drainage during heavy rain.

The authorities said the project, once operational, is expected to improve rainwater-flood control, particularly in Russey Keo district’s Kilometer 6 sangkat and surrounding areas. They also called on residents to help maintain the canals and dispose of waste properly to reduce flooding and keep the environment clean.
