Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet recently said Cambodia would continue strengthening military diplomacy and expanding international cooperation to contribute to global peace and security. He was speaking at a ceremony marking 20 years of Cambodia’s participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations and inaugurating several facilities at the Multinational Peacekeeping Training Centre in Kampong Speu province.
Hun Manet said the Ministry of National Defence was improving the armed forces’ capabilities and effectiveness through memorandums of understanding, terms of reference, joint military exercises and specialised training. He also cited a memorandum signed between the Cambodian and Turkish defence ministries during his recent visit to Türkiye.
Regarding joint exercises, Cambodia will host the eighth Golden Dragon exercise with China this year and plans to hold the eighth Angkor Sentinel exercise with the United States next year. With United Nations support, Cambodia will also host a peacekeeping exercise involving Cambodia, Japan and the Republic of Korea, while continuing military training and cooperation with ASEAN members and other partners.
Hun Manet said broadening partnerships and participating in international affairs were priorities for Cambodia. Through deeper cooperation, Cambodia would strengthen military capabilities, build mutual trust and work with international partners to safeguard peace, security and international order.
