On October 26, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet issued a statement marking the first anniversary of the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Statement by Cambodia and Thailand, and reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to addressing border disputes and boundary demarcation through peaceful means and international law.
Hun Manet said Cambodia would continue to uphold the spirit of the statement and avoid threats or the use of force. He noted that the two sides should address border-related issues through bilateral mechanisms such as the Regional Border Committee (RBC), General Border Committee (GBC) and Joint Border Committee (JBC), within their respective duties and authorities.
Hun Manet also thanked US President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, saying they had supported and encouraged the two countries in their efforts to conclude the Kuala Lumpur Peace Agreement. He said both leaders continued to support the peaceful resolution of disputes between the two sides and the achievement of lasting, sustainable peace.
The Kuala Lumpur Joint Statement was signed on October 26, 2025. As Hun Manet issued his statement, the Cambodia-Thailand border issue continued to attract attention. Cambodia said it would continue to rely on bilateral mechanisms and international law to promote a peaceful resolution of disputes.
