Recently, the Phnom Penh Department of Education, Youth and Sport announced that all public and private educational institutions in Phnom Penh will suspend classes on Saturday, November 14, and Monday, November 16, 2026, during the 20th Francophonie Summit. The move aims to ease traffic congestion and ensure road access and public order during the summit.

The summit will be held in Phnom Penh on November 15 and 16, marking the first time Cambodia will host the event. Yim Leang, Deputy General Commissioner of the National Police and head of the Bodyguard Department, said on October 26 that nearly 20,000 joint security personnel from 30 agencies and units will be deployed to maintain security, traffic order and meeting safety. He said Cambodia is capable of providing security guarantees for the visiting leaders and delegations of participating countries.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn said representatives from more than 90 countries are expected to attend, including French President Emmanuel Macron. Phnom Penh will also host the Francophonie Village, the Francophonie Technology Exhibition and the Cambodia-France Business Forum during the summit.

The related events will provide a platform for Cambodia to showcase opportunities in culture, tourism and economic development, and are expected to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between Cambodia and French-speaking countries. Residents and visitors should watch for official traffic arrangements and plan their journeys in advance.
