On October 27, 2025, a launch event for the FishTech Plus project was held in Cambodia under the auspices of Senior Minister of State for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Dith Sun. Five students from Charles Sturt University in Australia, represented by Kanu Negi, First Secretary of the Australian Embassy in Cambodia, and representatives from education, research, ministries and agencies, and international organisations attended.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation among ministries and agencies, universities, and international organisations. It sought to promote research, capacity building, and the implementation of solutions to address the impacts of climate change on coastal and riverine communities. The project continues the achievements of the first phase of the FishTech project, which built six demonstration fishponds in Cambodia from 2022 to 2025.
Participation by national and international institutions also highlighted the importance of partnership and interministerial cooperation in exchanging knowledge, experience and technology, while advancing technical capacity to address climate change challenges. This cooperation also plays an important role in protecting aquatic life in freshwater ecosystems, preserving ecosystem balance, and supporting food security and community livelihoods.
The FishTech Plus project for the 2026–2029 period will focus on capacity building, applied research, knowledge exchange, and the adoption of fish-rearing technologies so that aquaculture technologies can reach those in need. This is an important step in improving the management and conservation of aquatic resources in Cambodia, ensuring greater effectiveness for present and future generations.
