Randy Cassingham, a tourist who was among the passengers of Villa Vie Odyssey, has expressed anger over the use of his name and image by Thailand’s Khaosod English, alleging that they were used for misleading propaganda that did not reflect the truth. He said he strongly objected to his identity and what he described as a distorted portrayal of Cambodia’s good name being used in that context, calling the conduct shameful. His reaction followed reports concerning the vessel’s situation and Cambodia’s assistance to its passengers.

While Villa Vie Odyssey was experiencing difficulties, the Royal Government of Cambodia allowed it to dock at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port and assigned relevant institutions to coordinate documentation, accommodation and travel for international tourists, crew and the ship’s staff. During their stay, Cambodian residents and the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administration offered a warm welcome and hospitality. According to the information described above, some passengers expressed appreciation and gratitude for Cambodia’s humanitarian assistance.

Following coordination by the Royal Government and relevant authorities, Villa Vie Odyssey eventually departed Cambodia smoothly and safely during the night of November 3–4, 2026. The case demonstrated cooperation in welcoming international visitors and attention to passenger safety. At the same time, the use of individuals’ names and images in news coverage should respect their rights and preserve the context of their testimony accurately. By: Sopheak.
